COAT LOSS IN POMERANIANS

ALOPECIA X - BLACK SKIN DISEASE - BSD

Coat loss in poms is something i have been studying for over 20 years now and i have seen many many different reasons for it to happen to mostly males but also females.

I wanted to do a separate page all around the subject of coat loss in Pomeranians because it is a huge subject these days and commonly misdiagnosed as BSD/Alopica X when 8 out of 10 times there is a reason for the coat loss than can be treated.

Not very often is it actually true alopecia X more commonly nicknamed black skin disease. 8 out of 10 cases branded BSD actually have a diagnosis and a treatment to help coat regrowth. Post clipping alopica because of this terrible trend to shave or have the poms coat cut extramly short next to allergies are the 2 highest causes of caot loss in poms.

Most vets do not do enough testing to get to the bottom of the cause any you really do need to push them for the extra testing for allergies as they are not commonly done.

Hypothyroid is another main cause of coat loss in poms, this is totally different to alopecia X and i have had so many owners tell me there vet said there dog has BSD because it has a thyroid or hormone imbalance. If there is a cause found like thyroid or hormone then that is the cause of the coat loss and your dog does not have alopica X.

There is no treatment or test to find Alopecia X-BSD-Black Skin Disease
